Midtown Exchange/Global Market

Many tastes, one place

The Midtown Global Market is a busy hub for both entrepreneurs and shoppers.

Decades ago, the huge Sears building in Minneapolis was a hive of commercial activity. But when it closed in the early ‘90s, the place stood abandoned. Today, the architectural giant—now called the Midtown Exchange—hums once more with the addition of 350 mixed-income apartments and condominiums. The jewel in the crown is the vibrant new Midtown Global Market, a thriving hub of 60 small businesses offering products from around the world—everything from Middle Eastern olives and Indian saris to Thai cooking and salsa lessons. And it’s all located along the city’s premier urban bike path.
