Careership Program
Careership combines classroom and experiential learning
The TC LISC Careership program places participants in local "host" organizations—CDCs and public/private housing agencies or funders-for part-time, midcareer apprenticeships. Hosts design assignments that take advantage of each participant's background while offering experiences to build specific skills and raise understanding of the organization. Each apprentice works 15 hours a week for one year with a host organization and receives a stipend of $12,000. Apprentices also attend monthly seminars that offer three college credits and are taught by Metropolitan State University faculty.
To date, 50% of Careership's participants have been African American; 12%, American Indian; 20%, African Immigrants; 8%, Asian; and 10%, Latino.
