The Big Picture Project

The Central Corridor is one of the hottest development spots in the cities. Dozens of affordable housing projects are under way or being planned there, but until now there’s been no attempt to align them to ensure maximum benefit for residents. This summer and fall, we’re helping lead The Big Picture Project, a multi-sector effort that moves beyond individual housing projects to integrated placemaking.

Our latest Op-eds: The regional impact of neighborhood revitalization and the racial wealth gap

If you think that community development efforts miles away from your home or business don’t have an impact on you, read our recent Daily Planet op-ed called “Miles away, but still your business.” Another one of our op-eds promoting comprehensive community development appeared recently on the MPR website: “Report on racial wealth gap should serve as a call to action.”

New leadership on our Local Advisory Committee

MayKao Hang, president and CEO of the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, is the new chair of our Local Advisory Committee. We look forward to working with MayKao as we continue to focus on implementing comprehensive community development strategies.

A big thank you goes to our outgoing chair, Julie Causey, chairman at Western Bank, for four years of stellar leadership. Julie helped successfully guide us through a leadership transition and development of a new strategic plan, no small feat.

The North Side comes together

Since the tornado in May, North Side community developers, other nonprofits, and residents have been working side by side to clean up debris, help affected residents, and make neighborhood improvements. It’s an inspiring story we’re glad to be part of.

CDI helps Richfield plan its future

Over the past few months, our Corridor Development Initiative (CDI) has helped the developer and residents in Richfield think through a range of redevelopment opportunities for the old Lyndale Garden Center site. That spot has the potential to become a vibrant new community hub.

Our AmeriCorps strengthens local community development

The 11 2010-2011 AmeriCorps participants we placed in local CDCs have contributed their skills, insights, and energy to improve Twin Cities neighborhoods over the past year. Now we’re recruiting 14 new participants.

Thanks to the Central Corridor Funders Collaborative

We want to acknowledge the Central Corridor Funders Collaborative’s (CCFC) generous support of the Big Picture Project, an effort to align affordable housing along the Central Corridor. As coordinators of this project, along with the Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, we’re excited to partner with the CCFC to create stable, thriving neighborhoods along the Central Corridor.
