Where We Work
Benefits of city redevelopment ripple throughout the region
We focus on neighborhoods surrounding the two downtowns, and where market shifts have occurred
The Twin Cities is a patchwork of communities with a shared destiny.
If city incomes and home values grow, the suburbs become stronger. If one city neighborhood becomes safer, all of us are safer. On the other hand, if city neighborhoods start a downward spiral, they can be a tipping point for the region.
To keep the two central cities vital, LISC works in neighborhoods surrounding the Minneapolis and St. Paul downtowns, and in several transitional urban neighborhoods where demographic and market shifts have occurred.
Our support of affordable housing construction in the cities has always had regional impact, but the past few years we’ve begun to work more intentionally with suburban communities. Many suburbs are actively pursuing ways to meet the growing demand and Twin Cities Metropolitan Council goals for homes that are attractive and affordable to young families, seniors, and young adults. That portion of our work will intensify through the Corridor Development Initiative.
