Phillips Eco-Enterprise Center
The possibilities of green
PEEC is a living example of green technologies at work, including a green roof.
The Phillips Eco-Enterprise Center, a light-industrial and office facility in Minneapolis, was developed as a model of a comprehensive green sustainable commercial building. Green features of the building include ground-source heat pumps, active day lighting systems, an energy management system, native landscaping, a green roof, on-site storm water management, the reuse of 50 tons of steel and 22,000 bricks, and the largest photovoltaic array in the northern Midwest. The center, whose current tenants include both for-profit and nonprofit organizations, has brought 140 jobs to an inner-city site that was formerly a polluted brownfield. This is the place where local developers go to learn about the latest green technologies and to purchase recycled construction materials at the ReUse Center.
